Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) Director Carissa Etienne has claimed that one in four Covid deaths globally are taking place in the Americas. She held the uncontrolled spread of the infection responsible for such a high death rate in the region. "One in four COVID deaths reported worldwide last week took place right here, in the Americas. Nearly every country in Central America is reporting a rise in infections," she said.
