Russian officials refrained from imposing lockdowns amid the second wave of the pandemic. This has now resulted in a fresh surge in Covid related deaths in the country. As per the data released by the Federal Statistics Service, the death toll in the country has surged to 24,369 in February. This count is nearly double the initial tally of deaths in the country. The death toll for January has also been revised to a higher number.
