The Japanese government may extend the state of emergency for Tokyo and other major urban areas that was scheduled to end on May 11. Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto and Hyogo prefectures were put under the state of emergency for 17 days starting April 25. Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga will decide on the extension of the state of emergency after meeting the economics minister, the health minister and other key ministers.
