Lockdown in West Bengal extended till May 30 amid surge in Covid cases

The West Bengal government has extended the lockdown in the state till May 30 amid a surge in Covid-19 cases. The decision was taken after the state registered its highest single-day spike of 20,846 fresh COVID-19 cases on Friday. The total caseload in the state stands at 10,94,802. 136 new deaths were added in the state, taking the death toll to 12,993. Essential services will continue to function during the lockdown.
