The World Health Organisation said that political and religious mass gatherings were among the factors that contributed to the “resurgence and acceleration” of coronavirus transmission in the country. "The resurgence in Covid-19 cases and deaths in India has raised questions on the potential role of B.1.617 and other variants in circulation," WHO said in its Covid-19 Weekly Epidemiological Update.
