The World Health Organization said that the global weekly toll of Covid cases has nearly doubled over the past two months and is approaching the highest infection rate seen so far. "The inequitable distribution of vaccines is not just a moral outrage, it is also economically and epidemiologically self-defeating," WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said while adding that the world was failing at "vaccine equity".
