5% hike in Dearness Allowance announced for Central government employees

PM Narendra Modi led Union Cabinet has approved a hike of 5% in Dearness Allowance to Central Government employees, and Dearness Relief (DR) to pensioners, with effect from July 2019. The hike was approved on the basis of the formula recommended by the 7th pay commission, as compensation for price rise. Union Minister called it a Diwali gift to employees as it will benefit 48 lakh govt employees and 62 lakh pensioners.
