Almost 70% of education loans given to general category students: Govt data

According to the data by the Ministry of Human Resource Development on a government-funded surety scheme for educational loans, around 70% of the education loans in the country are given to the students from the General category or upper caste. The data from financial year 2016-17 till now, revealed that of the 4.1 lakh students who benefited from the scheme, 67% were from General Category while 23% were from Other backward classes.
