Antarctica has witnessed its hottest temperature on record, with the mercury reaching above 20 C for the first time. The shock reading, claimed by Brazilian scientists at Seymour Island on February 9, surpasses the previous record of 19.8 C, taken on Signy Island in January 1982. But he mentioned that the temperature, logged on 9 February, was just one reading and not part of a long-term data set.
