The fifth edition of the National Family Health Survey (NFHS) reveals there is a long way to go as far as attitudes toward domestic violence are concerned. People from 18 states and the union territory of Jammu and Kashmir were asked the following question: "In your opinion, is a husband justified in hitting or beating his wife?." Not only men, a large proportion of women in several states have justified spousal violence targeting their gender.
