According to the army officials from Assam, the troops of the Indian Army are being withdrawn from active counter-insurgency (CI) operations from different parts of Assam. The Army had moved in to tackle insurgency in the state in 1990 when it launched Operation Bajrang and then Operation Rhino against ULFA rebels. The incidents of violence have been at their lowest in recent times in the past 30 years.
