According to a study published Thursday in the journal Science, the Australian bushfires that destroyed acres of forest cover between 2019 and 2020, discharged as much smoke into the stratosphere as a large volcanic eruption. Study co-author Ilan Koren said he was surprised to see such a significant effect of the forest fire. "I never saw such an injection (of smoke) to the stratosphere," the researcher added.
