The scientists in Australia have discovered a detached reef, more than 500 metres high. Found at the northern end of the Great Barrier Reef, the reef is taller than the Empire State Building. Australian scientists aboard Schmidt Ocean Institute's research vessel Falkor discovered the reef. The vessel is currently on a 12-month exploration of the ocean surrounding Australia. This comes amid the mass death of young and old corals.
