Amid the heightened tensions between Beijing and Taipei, strategic thinkers in Taiwan think China might attempt a full-scale invasion by 2025. "For me as a military man, the urgency is right in front of me," said Chiu Kuo-cheng, the defence minister while answering a Taiwanese parliamentary committee. Meanwhile, US has been increasing its naval presence in the South China Sea to counter China's aggression against Taiwan.
