A 22-million-year old fossil of a giant mammal was lost & now bones kept for decades were discovered in a Kenyan museum drawer. The species named 'Simbakubwa kutokaafrika' which means 'big African lion' in Swahili roamed east Africa about 20 million years ago & was likely at the top of the food chain. It belongs to hyaenodonts, an extinct group of mammals. The findings were reported in the Journal of Vertebrate Paleontology.
