Biodiversity Board starts study after death of 500 endangered trees due to insects in evergreen forests

The natural forests of Sirsi in Uttar Kannada District have witnessed the death of 500 Jala (Shorea talura) trees due to an insect attack. Jala tree is a vulnerable tree that entered the red list of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) in 2017. The strange phenomenon has prompted the Karnataka Biodiversity Board to conduct a study in order to find the reason behind the phenomenon.
