China's deputy agricultural minister Qu Dongyu is elected as the new director general of the UN Food and Agricultural Organization. He is the 1st Chinese to hold such an influential post. He is a biologist by training & won 108 votes. Qu aims to focus on hunger & poverty eradication, tropical agriculture, drought land farming, digital rural development & better land design through a transformation of agricultural production.
