Child suicide rate in Japan at its highest in more than 40 years

As the coronavirus crisis continues to affect routine life in Japan, the numbers of child suicide cases are at their highest in more than the last 40 years. Amid the Covid-19 pandemic, as many as 415 children from elementary to high school age committed suicide in the country. This was 100 more than the last year, the highest since record-keeping began in 1974. Suicides increased drastically in Japan in 2020.
