Chinese app made users plant 100 million trees in 2 years, offers "green energy points"

Chinese payments app 'Alipay' ran an initiative 'Ant Forest' to promote the planting of trees, by offering the users a chance to plant trees in barren regions. They were offered "green energy points" for making small, environmentally-friendly decisions like recycling, opting out of plastic bags. The users then were given the opportunity to use these points to plant trees in those areas that needed vegetation.
