Citizenship Amendment Act 2019, passed by Parliament last month, comes into force

The Citizenship Amendment Bill, which was passed by LS on 10 December 2019, came into force on Friday. The Home Ministry today notified this through the Gazette of India. The President gave his assent on 12th December 2019 and it was notified on the Gazette the same day. This bill was introduced to fast-track citizenship for non-Muslims, who have arrived in India before December 31, 2014, from Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Pak.
