It is a rule that when a Chief Justice of India retires he/she has to recommend someone’s name who will take their place. As CJI Dipak Mishra is set to retire on 2nd October 2018, before his retirement he has suggested the name of Ranjan Gogoi to become the next CJI to the government. If the suggestion is approved then Gogoi will take oath on October 2 and he will be retired on 17th November 2019.
