According to the Brazilian space agency's PRODES monitoring program, the deforestation rate in Brazil's Amazon forest has reached a 12-year high. The figure has led to a massive condemnation of President Jair Bolsonaro's government. Brazil lost a total of 11,088 square kilometers of the forest from its share. Brazil is the only country where the emission of greenhouse gases increased even during the coronavirus pandemic.
