India issued over 25 lakh e-visas last year, a 5-fold jump from 2015 & reduced the main category visa from 26 to 21 by clubbing some categories. Home Ministry officials said visa sub-categories has reduced from 104 to 65, thus simplifying the visa regime & removing confusion. The e-visa facility now covers 166 countries; foreigners can obtain an online visa within 72 hours. Film visa extended to web shows & series.
