Scorched wooden incense burners discovered by archaeologists at an ancient burial ground in the mountains of western China hides the oldest clear evidence of cannabis smoking yet unearthed. Residues of high potency cannabis in the burners, and on charred pebbles inside them point out funeral rites at the 2,500-year-old Jirzankal cemetery in Pamir mountain may well shed new light on the origin of cannabis smoking.
