French Parliament sets age of sexual consent at 15

The French parliament passed a bill that was hailed as "historic" by many, to set the minimum age of sexual consent at 15. The legislation was approved unanimously by the National Assembly following a series of sexual abuse incidents. As per the new legislation, sex with children under 15 will be considered rape and will be punishable by up to 20 years in prison. The age of consent has been set at 18 in the case of incest.
