Here's why Delhi Police waited at JNU gates for permission to enter campus?

Soon after some masked attackers attacked students inside the JNU, the Delhi Police was put under scanners for not entering the university and stop the violence. In its response, the Delhi Police has said that they were waiting for official permission from the varsity administration to enter the campus, as required by the law. However, the University officials informed the police after the first incidence of violence.
