In a first, woman approaches Supreme Court to oppose Triple Talaq law

Noorbeena Rasheed, a lawyer from Kerala moved Supreme Court on July 6 to challenge the Protection of Rights on Marriage Act, under which granting instant Talaq is treated as a criminal offense. Rasheed said in her petition that the protection of women cannot be achieved by incarceration of husbands. She became the first woman to move the court against the law that was passed last year amid a lot of controversies.
