India-China face-off: Srinagar-Leh highway closed for civilians

The Srinagar-Leh highway has been closed for civilians following a recent face-off between the Indian and Chinese troops on the night of 29-30 August. Only defence forces and their vehicles can now use the highway. The defence ministry said in a statement earlier today that the Chinese troops attempted to unilaterally change the status quo on the southern bank of the Pangong Tso Lake area in eastern Ladakh.
