Indonesia's Sulawesi island was hit by a 6.1-magnitude earthquake. It was a strong earthquake that hit 258 kilometres northeast of the city of Manado in North Sulawesi at a depth of 68 kilometres. The island nation witnesses earthquakes on a very regular basis due to its position on the Pacific "Ring of Fire". The island was hit by a 6.2-magnitude quake in January that killed over 100 people and left thousands of people homeless.
