In 2017, a new rule was introduced in Japan where only 20 asylum seekers were accepted out of 20,000 applications. Since 2010, work permits were granted to asylum seekers with valid visas but with the emergence of new govt, the number of bogus applications increased. Many accusations have been drawn against this unfair rule but Japan’s immigration detention centers are already known for their harsh treatment of detainees.
