Kanwar Yatra for 2021 suspended by Uttarakhand government in view of Covid

After facing the heat over irregularities and mismanagement during the Kumbh Mela amid the pandemic, the Uttarakhand government has suspended the annual Kanwar Yatra to Haridwar this year. State government spokesperson Subodh Uniya said the Yatra, an annual pilgrimage of Lord Shiva's devotees, has been suspended as a precautionary measure in view of a surge in Covid cases in the state. The Yatra was suspended last year as well.
