Recently Karnataka government has proposed an amendment which allowed to cut 50 species of trees without permission. The environmentalists and citizens protested against this decision but soon it was clarified that it was applicable only to tress on the lands owned by farmers. “Such gross misuse will affect the environment and forest cover of the state. Hence, the bill was withdrawn,” said TB Jayachandra, the law minister.
