According to a report based on research by the US-based Energy Policy Institute at the University of Chicago, the life expectancy of about 40% of Indians may be reduced by more than 9 years due to air pollution. "Alarmingly, India's high levels of air pollution have expanded geographically over time," the report said. The research group, however, praised India's National Clean Air Program, which was launched in 2019.
