The German government led by Chancellor Angela Merkel has extended the lockdown restrictions in most parts of the country till February 14 amid the rising fears of new Covid19 variants. "Now is the time to take preventive measures against the threat of this virus," Merkel said after chairing a high-level meeting with the premiers of Germany's 16 federal states. Medical masks have been made mandatory.
