After constant criticism by human rights groups and global powers, a Malaysian court has temporarily halted the plan to deport 1,200 Myanmar detainees to their homeland amid the coup that has led to massive protests in Yangon and nearby areas. Amnesty International Malaysia's executive director, Katrina Jorene Maliamauv said the 1,200 detainees are not safe from deportation and "are facing life-threatening risks."
