According to the latest update, the newly-created Department of Military Affairs headed by Chief of Defence Staff General Bipin Rawat will be having two Joint Secretaries, 13 Deputy Secretaries and 22 Under Secretaries. General Rawat took charge as India's first Chief of Defence Staff on December 31. PM Narendra Modi had asserted that the appointment of CDS would further strengthen the nation's defence.
