Mohammad Eslami appointed to head Iran's civilian nuclear program

Iran's newly elected President Ebrahim Raisi has appointed Mohammad Eslami as the head of the country's civilian nuclear program. Eslami, a 64-year-old civil engineer, previously served as the head of Iran's road network. He will also serve as one of several vice presidents of Iran. Eslami succeeds Ali Akbar Salehi, a US-educated scientist. Eslami worked in Iran's military industries for years before joining the Cabinet in 2018.
