The general public of Myanmar rushed to find alternatives of social connectivity platforms following the temporary suspension of the internet amid the coup. More than 600,000 mobile users downloaded an offline messaging app called Bridgefy. The Mexico-based startup became popular for the first time during Hong Kong's pro-democracy protests in 2020. The firm hoped people in Myanmar would find its app "useful during tough times."
