Moscow's famous metro subway system has hired female drivers for the first time since a ban was imposed on female drivers in the city in the late 1980s. Russia's ministry of labour has altered the ban, allowing women to drive metros. Women were allowed to drive trains from 1936 before the ban was imposed in 1980. The list of jobs not available for women for so-called health reasons has been slashed from 456 to 98.
