According to a new proposal advanced by an international team of geophysicists and geologists, Iceland may be the only exposed remains of a nearly Texas-sized continent dubbed Icelandia that sank beneath the North Atlantic Ocean around 10 million years ago. The idea, according to the researchers, explains both the geological features of the ocean floor as well as why the Earth's crust beneath Iceland is thicker than other areas.
