NASA will pretend that an asteroid is about to smash the Earth, just to practice a real one. The 'tabletop exercise' allows NASA & other govt organizations to respond to such an event to simulate their response before a real one strikes. The scenario will be realistic but a fictional disaster, developed by NASA to study NEOs. Such exercises are used by disaster response sector to ensure real responses are fast & effective.
