The deaths occurred on the same day that Canada established a new all-time high-temperature record for the 3rd day in a row, hitting 49.5 degrees Celsius in Lytton, British Columbia. At least 69 people died in the Vancouver area of Canada as a result of a record-breaking heatwave that has enveloped the country's west and the Pacific Northwest of the United States. The majority were older or had underlying medical problems.
