Days after a 12-year-old child died in Kerala due to the Nipah virus, the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) has asked the state government to prevent the further spread of the infection and a potential epidemic. PETA wrote to Kerala's minister of animal husbandry and dairy development, J Chinchrani to make the request. "The crowded animal farms of the meat industry create hotspots for zoonotic diseases," said PETA.
