Rubber Board chairman plants world’s first genetically modified rubber on the outskirts of Guwahati

KN Raghavan, the Rubber Board chairman and executive director planted the world’s first genetically modified rubber plant on the outskirts of Guwahati, Assam. The rubber was planted at the board’s farm in Sarutari near Guwahati. It was developed at the Kerala-based Rubber Research Institute of India. The modified plant has additional copies of gene MnSOD (manganese containing superoxide dismutase) in it.
