According to a study by Public Health England, the new coronavirus mutant strain that emerged in UK does not cause severe illness in comparison to the other variants. However, scientists believe that the new variant can spread more rapidly. 1,769 people infected with the new variant were compared with 1,769 people having the "wild-type" virus for the study. No significant difference in the likelihood of reinfection was found.
