Supreme Court issues notice to Twitter, Centre on fake news checking mechanism

The Supreme Court today issued a notice to the central government and Twitter, in response to a petition seeking a mechanism to check fake news and hate messages. The petition was filed by BJP leader Vinit Goenka in May last year. Goenka sought a mechanism to check Twitter content and advertisements that were used to spread hatred and fake news. The petition mentioned hundreds of fake Twitter handles and Facebook accounts.
