Supreme Court issues notice to Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand governments, refuses to stay Love Jihad law

A three-judge Supreme Court bench headed by Chief Justice SA Bobde refused to stay the controversial Love Jihad law in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand that has been brought to punish marriages based on religious conversion. The apex court, however, sent notices to the two state governments on petitions challenging the controversial law in Uttar Pradesh and Freedom of Religion Act, 2018 in Uttarakhand.
