Thailand becomes the first country in Asia to roll out plain cigarette packaging. Activists say its an effective way to reduce the appeal of smoking. Australia was the first country to require tobacco products to be sold without colorful logos in 2012. The health impact in Thailand is huge & smoking-related illnesses are a leading cause of death. Singapore too is ready to implement similar restrictions on packaging next year.
