Thailand’s baby dugong ‘Mariam’ dies with plastic in stomach

Only a few months ago, a baby dugong was rescued from the shallow waters off Thailand. The photos of her playing with her rescuers became an instant hit on social media giving the much-needed attention to ocean conservation campaigns. Unfortunately, Mariam lost her battle for recovery and died with a lot of plastic waste in her intestines after she went into shock and efforts to resuscitate her didn’t succeed.
