A fresh surge in coronavirus cases in Tokyo has prompted the Tokyo Metropolitan Government to request the central government to declare a state of emergency. Tokyo Governor Yuriko Koike is likely to discuss the probability of another restriction in the city with Economy Minister Yasutoshi Nishimura. Saitama Prefecture just north of Tokyo is also going to request the government for similar measures.
